An Osteopathy session
How is an osteopathy session :
A meeting lasts about 40 minutes, depending on
the desease and its chronicity.
The osteopath makes often a second apointment if the first is not enough or just for a checking up.
You are free to cancel it if you feel better, but you have to be aware that an old pathology
(since 3 months) is never fixed in one only session. Generally you have to make 3 sessions.
Before a meeting :
Try to bring with you all your recent exams (scan, MRI, Radios, etc.) for the
first osteopathy session. Though, it's crucial for your therapist to know all the details of your anatomy, and particularly
of your cervical spine before every mobilization.
Sequence of an osteopathy meeting :
It begins with a clinical cross-examination : How old is the desease, What is making it be harder or less painful, worse moments, etc.
The therapist has to know everything which can link your story with the desease story. It is essential not to forget elements which can be important, and to let himself
see what is important or not.
After that, the therapist does the clinical exam : stood up, lied down, active mobility tests, passive, resistance tests, etc.
The osteopth tests the flexibility of your articulations and of the ligaments to know where the trouble comes from. This is crucial to have enough knowledge
about anatomy, physiology and above all mobilization technics
Once the problem found, the osteopath cures you. There is a lot of technics for that, some are efficient faster than other, but everyone is important
to know beacause the therapist has to adapt himself to every petient or clinical case.
The most frightening technics for people are the "thrust" technics. These can make a strange noise when they are done like a "pop" or "crack" sound,
wich is never the point of the mobilization. It is really important to be aware that the point of a mobilization
is to inform the structure to mobilize, to make it flexible again.
Conclusion of a meeting :
A the end of an osteopathy session, you will feel really tired. The pain can increase
after the meeting, and decrease strongly during the next 48-72h. It is due to the inflammation that follows the mobilization.
The point of the first session is above all to unlock the injured mobilization. As it's written higher, for an old pathology,
you might have to make more than one session to make th pain that make you reffer to the osteopath, go away.
The sessions have to be spaced from at least 3 or 4 days because the body has to adapt itself with its new balance, and that you feel the beneficial effects.
Though in the most of cases, and above all in high-pitched (emergencies) such as high back pains, or low back pains,
the day after the first session is often full of satisfaction, because the body did not have enough time to adapt itsalf in a bad balance.
