Osteopathy in Paris 6

The fees

  • Osteopathy consultation: 100 €, about forty-five minutes, examination and treatment included.
  • Pregnancy, babies: 60 €.
  • Shock wave therapy session: 60 €.
  • Spinal decompression: 100 € a session; the number of sessions is decided after the first consultation, never before. Details are on the spinal decompression cost page.

The fee is the same for everyone, resident or passing through Paris, and it does not depend on what is done during the session.

What the French public insurance covers: nothing

Osteopathy is not covered by the French Assurance maladie, whatever the practitioner, the diploma or the reason for the visit. The useful corollary: no prescription is needed. You book directly, and seeing a doctor first changes nothing to the price.

French mutuelles and international insurers

Most French complementary insurers (mutuelles) include an allowance for osteopathy, usually between one and five sessions a year, with a ceiling per session. International and expatriate policies vary widely: some reimburse osteopathy in full, some require a doctor's referral, some not at all, so check before you come rather than after.

At the end of each session you receive a receipt with the practitioner's details. That is the document your insurer expects; if yours has its own claim form, bring it, as it is easier to fill in on the spot than to reopen the file weeks later.

How many sessions, so how much in total

For a recent problem, a lumbago, a stiff neck, a pain that appeared after an effort, one to three sessions are enough in the great majority of cases: count on 100 to 300 €. For a pain that has been there for months, more will be needed, and we take stock at the third session. If nothing has changed, we do not carry on, we rethink the diagnosis.

Monthly “maintenance” for someone who has no pain has no justification. For prevention, one or two sessions a year are plenty.
